When I started at Sparkol a year ago, I didn't know what I was letting myself in for. Sure, I'd heard good things. I thought it might be a good place to develop my skills and work on my writing. But I had no idea how creative and supportive the environment is, or how big the company's vision would be.
My first few weeks were a bit of a blur but everyone made an effort to talk to me and I began to feel confident in my skills for the first time.
Initially I was wowed by the obvious tech startup perks – free lunches from a local Italian every day. Unlimited coffee (the fancy kind!). Ping pong championships.
But then I began to appreciate the bigger things. Like the health cover and insurance, the generous holidays, the charity sponsorship scheme. The way that everyone gets to share in our success. Regardless of role or status.
I know this is all sounds a bit cheesy, but bear with me!
The moment that brought it all home to me was when I had to stay home sick for a few days. When I came back in the following week, I was dreading the inevitable 'how dare you waste company time' lecture I'd come to expect from rubbish employers.
It meant a lot to me that the only questions Rosie in HR asked were 'Are you okay?' and 'Is there anything we can do to help?'
I started to realise there was something special about Sparkol. Here was a company with a clear mission and a strong moral core. A company that gives its employees all the resources and support we need to grow.
I wouldn't shut up about it to my friends and eventually two of them joined me here and got to see how good it is for themselves.
We've taken on over 20 people in the past year. We're expanding faster than our office space will allow. And with so many great new products in the works, the only way is up.
This week we put out adverts for eight new jobs – and there are loads more coming. We've got a bit of everything too, from web and product development to HR and communications.
So my question for you is – would you like to join us?
Even if your area of expertise isn't on the list, we're always open to speculative applications. If you're brimming with ideas and passionate about helping people to engage their audience, there could be a place here for you too.
