Say hey to the people taking VideoScribe forward

Another week, another batch of friendly new starters to introduce. Meet Pete, Chris, James and Ben, our squeaky new Product Developers and Application Support Analyst. We cornered them to find out their hopes, dreams and feelings towards Nicholas Cage.

What did you do before you joined us at Sparkol?

I was Lead .NET Developer at Avon and Somerset Constabulary (AKA the cops). I headed up the development team, working on their websites and other projects.

Important question – what’s your breakfast of choice to get you ready for coding?

I’ll have to go with porridge – it’s a classic for a reason.

And what are your plans for the Product Team?

Longer hours and a zero tolerance policy for bugs! More seriously, working closely with everyone to create products for a global audience that exceed expectations.

What is it about Sparkol that appeals to you?

I feel like I’ve discovered a hidden Silicon Valley startup in the rural surroundings of the West Country.

If you were a toy, what toy would you be?

It’s got to be Lego. Why restrict yourself when you can be and do anything?

What did you do before you came here?

I recently graduated from the University of Portsmouth as a Software Developer.

Congratulations! What are you going to be doing at Sparkol?

I will be working on the software itself, improve the functionality and usability of VideoScribe on all platforms. I will also be involved in developing some new products in the coming year, which I'm really looking forward to.

If you could be any fictional character, who would you be?

Spongebob Squarepants. He is so happy.

Would you rather never have access to the internet or always have Nicolas Cage with you?

Trick question – they are the same thing.

Tell us a joke...

Politicians. No, but seriously (or jokingly)...

What did the mayonnaise say to the fridge? Shut the door I'm dressing.

James

Product developer

What did you do before you came here?

I studied Computer Science at Plymouth University and also completed a placement year at a corporate IT company, mainly dealing with data storage and performance testing.

What wouldn't we guess about you?

I'm a football enthusiast, proudly supporting Arsenal F.C. However I tend to keep this quiet as they don't win many trophies.

Good plan. If you had a time machine, where (or when) would you go?

Go back to the early 2000's, when Arsenal won the Premier League (several times).

And what projects are you going to be working on?

Improving the functionality of VideoScribe will be the main focus, however as fresh opportunities arise it's likely I'll also get involved with these too.

Would you rather fight a car-sized rabbit or a dog-sized tiger?

The car-sized rabbit as it would probably to be quite slow if I chose to run away.

Ben

Application Support Analyst

What did you do before you came here?

I was freelance graphic designer – I did animation, illustration and website stuff. I got really good at Spelunky too.

What are you excited about at Sparkol?

The new features in Videoscribe 2.1 and some other stuff I’m probably not allowed to mention here.

Do you have any secret talents?

Secretly Welsh.

Not anymore! Would you rather have feet for hands or hands for feet?

That’s easy, hands for feet. In fact, if there was surgery available I’d be first in line.

If you could only listen to three records forever what would they be?

Stereolab – Dots and Loops, Aphex Twin – Selected Ambient Works 85-92, Shuggie Otis – Inspiration Information.

Fancy working with these four? Keep an eye on our jobs page for updates.
